Silly Chommers, that's the colour of Javis No30 Sand! I did this using the sprinkle on to wet paint method so I used a brushed on paint (I had made up to a BS381c shade of OD) which takes a while to dry so I could sprinkle the whole helmet at once for an even texture.
I think it looks better still now with a couple of coats of Tamiya TS-5 spray Olive Drab:

Today I went to the London Imperial War museum. 
Incredible place.
realised the BD trousers i ordered are actually a size to big!...(and also very baggy)
today i have spent 4.5 hours with wire wool ,ally black,copper black (DONT GET ME STARTED 
) ,cold blue and an agm stg44 of the unpainted type.its a little over 3/4 done cosmetically but still needs a downgrade as well.even i would have lost the will to live if i had first needed to strip paint off,its been knocking about for a while and oxidised so it needs scrubbing all over with the wire wool before it gets the chemical black.....think i'll take the dogs out before the final assault,an hour of trudging through 4 inches of mud will make finishing the gun look inviting.dont bother with birchwood casey copper black its so difficult to use,needs the copper heating just enough and not to much before applying or it barely works and even then is really hard to get an even finish grrrrrr....,to make matters worse ive found that there's a better product called "liver of sulphur"thats mutch better and easy to use 
i'll post pictures when its done,probably look just like a painted one

Today I bought a plastic repro German helmet and also Semperfi's G43 stock...
Looking forward to being able to kit it up a bit.
Not today, but yesterday.
Went to Militracks in Overloon (The Netherlands). It is a big event with (only) original WW2 German vehicles. This year including a running 38t tank, a hetzer and a T34. All in running condition.
German re-enactment is/was not allowed during the event. That's why you see 'just' civilians in the vehicles.
